You can choose either a new song or one you are already familiar with. You can also select specific vocal phrases you'd like to practice. Please remember to bring your notebook/writing materials, a water bottle, and a practice recording or backing track if you plan to work on your own songs. You don't need to memorize the lyrics. However, if you want to focus on the song's interpretation, it is recommended that you know the song by heart in its entirety.
In the first singing lesson, I will get to know you and how you use your voice. We will test different exercises, and I will assess your vocal technique, noting which exercises bring the desired results. We will discuss your wishes and goals for your voice use. As the lessons progress, we will create a practice plan for you to support your goals and refine this plan based on your development.
You can attend singing lessons flexibly whenever it suits you best. Your goals also determine how often you should attend. For complete beginners, I recommend lessons at least every week or every other week initially so that any new techniques become muscle memory. Advanced or professional singers can evaluate themselves when singing lessons would be beneficial. Typically, we prepare for new music through studio prep or tour coaching.
Yes, everyone can learn to sing.
Singing is a very personal matter. I want my singers to be able to express their satisfaction with the lessons while maintaining their privacy. This is why the singer testimonials only include a first name. Age is not relevant in singing lessons, which is why it's only included in the recommendations if the singer wishes to share it.
Think in advance about what you want to sing and have the backing track ready (e.g., on an iPad, phone, or computer). Consider if you need the lyrics and where you want to read them from.
On a Computer:
Download Zoom to your device and open "audio settings."
Check the box for "Enable original sound for musicians."
Uncheck the box for "automatically adjust microphone volume."
Check the boxes for: "high fidelity music mode" and "echo cancellation."
Click "advanced settings" and set "echo cancellation" to "auto."
On an iPhone: You get the best sound quality by activating the "original sound" setting in Zoom. On a phone, this must be done in two steps: first in the settings, and then during the call.
In Zoom Settings: Ensure your Zoom is up-to-date and you are using the latest version.
Open the Zoom app.
Tap the three dots in the bottom right corner, and then "More."
Under the "Settings" section, there is an "Audio" section; click to open it.
Select "audio profile: original sound."
After this, during the Zoom call, you should see the option "Enable Original Sound" when you tap the three dots in the bottom right corner.
